Repurposing is a fast, inexpensive way to get help to patients

Partnership for Cures and our funding partners help researchers test repurposing of drugs and other therapies to get them to patients in two years or less. If the research proves the therapy works it is immediately available for physicians to use with their patients!  Our donors have directly impacted millions of patients with blood cancers, children’s genetic diseases, AIDS, brain trauma and anemia by funding research repurposing already existing drugs and other therapies!

Example: PFC funders helped a researcher at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia repurpose an FDA approved cancer drug to create the first real treatment for children with a rare fatal blood cell disease ALPS. These children finally have a safe and inexpensive treatment that creates a good quality life and the chance to live more healthfully for many years.

No government or industry funding exists to repurpose generic drugs and therapies for new uses for disease.  New drug discovery takes 12-17 years, costs over $1B dollars, and over 97% of the new drugs never get to patients!  Repurposing takes 2 years or less at an average cost of under $250,000, and a high percentage of those repurposing projects directly benefit patients!

Our donor driven partnerships are working right now on lung cancer, type I diabetes, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, multiple myeloma, neonatal anesthesia accidents, and breast cancer.  2Y2C repurposing projects waiting for new donors could treat autism, Crohn’s disease, MS, lupus, colon cancer, severe depression, brain tumors, melanoma, prostate cancer, leukemia, and more.  We create a business plan for each 2Y2C project and rigorously manage to the quarterly aims and goals.  We secure co-funding for each project from the institution sponsoring the research. Together we can make a difference for patients and those who love them.
