May 10, 2007 (Rockford, IL) – The Rockford Illinois Chapter of Partnership for Cures held its inaugural informational event for over 60 of Rockford ’s most philanthropic individuals.

This event, held at the Northern Illinois University campus in Rockford, Illinois , included a keynote address from Dr. Bruce Bloom, President and Chief Scientific Officer for Partnership for Cures, who described the successes and the new opportunities of the Two Years to Cures Initiative mission of Partnership for Cures. Among these successes are the creation of the first ever successful treatment for the childhood blood disease ALPS , and a new project changing the way immune cell transplants are done for blood cancers.

The Rockford Illinois Chapter has committed to raise funds to support Two Years to Cures research projects. These research projects are being conducted at institutions like the Mayo Clinic, Harvard Medical School and the University of Chicago , testing the repurposing of drugs and other therapies to drive better treatments and cures to patients with disease right now.

In the newsletter you will read about a breakthrough inspired by and supported by the funders of PFC that created the first and only treatment for kids with the blood disease ALPS . We have other projects like that which can make a huge impact in the lives of kids and adults with disease just waiting for funding. This project is just one of many in our Two Years To Cures Initiative, which is accelerating the way innovative research reaches those we love.  To view the newsletter Click Here
