Today, small and medium sized foundations and individual philanthropists have a great opportunity to drive better treatments and cures more quickly to patients with life-threatening diseases. Private philanthropy can mobilize resources, translate knowledge and collaborate with scientists to create impact medical research for patients with disease right now. Helping patients with disease right now motivates philanthropists to participate. It is the truest measure of return on their "tactical investment" in medical research.
The 2Y2C Educational Workshop focuses on five core concepts that answer the questions of how tactical philanthropy can create this impact for patients:
1) What role can private philanthropy in medical research play in the overall healthcare funding landscape?
2) What effective philanthropic investments have generated better treatments and cures?
3) How can the power of leveraging through partnerships further accelerate the search for cures?
4) What is the impact of transparency, sharing of knowledge and open communication for the philanthropist, researcher, physicians, patients and caregivers?
5) How can effective evaluation of grant-making efforts and review of results accelerate the impact on patients?
