Check out this fun great short YouTube video

about participating in the Longest Day of Golf: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fBZBaIHlDs

When:       June 20, 2011

Where:      Bryn Mawr Country Club in Lincolnwood, Illinois

Who:         Anyone!  Up to 24 golfers play as many holes

as they can between 5:30 am and 9:15 pm!

WHY:       This year we're raising funds for a human clinical trial at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia repurposing the drug Rapamycin to treat children with rare blood and immune disorders. Preliminary research shows this repurposed drug can provide a safe and effective treatment for these children for less than $20/week, drastically improving their quality and length of life and saving tens of thousands of dollars in healthcare costs. This clinical trial will provide the proof physicians need to begin prescribing this life saving drug.

HOW:       Call  PFC Board member Steve Goldsher at 847-452-6170

or send an e-mail to Steve@4cures.org

Last year the weather was great and we had one player who finished 102 holes!  Our heartfelt thanks to the golfers and their friends, family and business associates who have helped us raise enough money the last two years to fund two research projects in prostate cancer, including a clinical trial that has already helped eradicate cancer from 8 men with no side effect and no hospital stay! More subjects will be treated in the upcoming months!

About Scott Hawes

Scott was born on December 30, 1968 in Rockford, Illinois to Tom and Terry (Heinzeroth) Hawes. He attended Roscoe schools and graduated from Hononegah High School in 1987. He attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and graduated with a Business degree in 1992.

Scott was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer on November 16, 2008. The doctors gave him 6 months at the most to live. Scott and his wife Tarrah lived at Mayo Clinic for 5 weeks. The doctors went after the cancer very aggressively. Scott had 5 weeks of chemotherapy and 2 weeks of radiation. After recovery, we were told Scott was cancer free, but he still continued his regular doctor visits.

Eventually, Scott started to notice more lumps on his body. The doctor took a biopsy of one lump. It came back positive for cancer and Scott started chemotherapy again. After 3 chemotherapy treatments, the doctor did a CT scan. The cancer was still growing and the very aggressive chemotherapy drug was not working anymore.

There were no clinical studies, other drugs, or any other options.

So Scott, his wife and two lovely children decided that they were going to accept that Scott had cancer, and live life to the fullest for the time they would have left together as a family. Scott and his family did take a lot of vacations together in the last 2 ½ years. That was 2 years more then what the doctors gave Scott. He enjoyed life to the end with his family and friends.

His biggest goal in life was to see the Packers play in the Super Bowl on February 6, 2011. He watched the game in pain, but never once complained. He enjoyed every minute of it, because he watched it with his family. Scott passed away one week to the day after the Super Bowl. He accomplished his goal. Scott died February 13, 2011.

He will always be remembered in his families' and friends' hearts forever.
