Dear Supporter,

PFC is gearing up for a great spring and summer!  We kicked off the warm weather with the Blues Travelers concert in support of PFC juvenile diabetes research on April 15th.  We are hosting the Longest Day of Golf-Chicago on June 21st in support of prostate cancer, followed by the Longest Day of Golf-Rockford in the end of July.  And, if that's not enough, in September we will be hosting "Laughter is the Best Medicine" events in Rockford and Chicago!

These events support our mission to quickly create safe and effective Rediscovery Research™ treatments. Your participation, generous support and commitment to these events at Partnership for Cures helps us help patients when they need us most.

Sincerely,

Partnership for Cures and Dr. Bruce Bloom were featured in Ted Pincus's financial column in the Chicago Sun-Times on April 6th 2010.

-A mild, unassuming Chicagoan is a soft-spoken dynamo who has been single-handedly changing the economics of American health care.  Dr. Bruce Bloom and his Partnership for Cures has been asking the nation's medical profession this question: After the pharmas and taxpayers have spent billions for the development of new drugs to tackle specific diseases, can't these now be cheaply recycled by imaginative researchers to perform additional breakthroughs for "orphan" diseases that are still taking thousands of lives each year...full story

Blues Traveler Concert benefits PFC
Blues Traveler concert1Thursday April 15 wasn't just tax day-it was the Dare2Dream Blues Traveler benefit concert to support juvenile diabetes research at Partnership for Cures.

Over a thousand people turned out to listen to music, watch a presentation and video from PFC and Friends United for Juvenile Diabetes Research, and bid on the silent auction items. A few lucky guests got to meet the band.

Our thanks to Jeff, Jade, Madilynn and everyone else at  Platform-1 Entertainment for creating, underwriting and organizing the event, our Board members Bobby and Lori Miller for sponsoring the event, and Jerry and Connie Paris, Steve Goldsher and Steve Braun for attending and bringing their friends, the Blues Traveler band for believing in such a great cause, Friends United Against Juvenile Diabetes for being committed to raising funds and awareness to find a cure.

And our gratitude to the Exsulin Corporation, Mayo Clinic and McGill University for undertaking the first Phase II human patients' trial of the Exsulin molecule that can regrow pancreas producing cells!

Cravat Foundation- We are in discussions with Dr. Guy Weinberg of CRAVAT foundation (Center for Research and Analysis of Vascular Tumors) to create a funding partnership to support a very interesting project in a rare disease. Dr. Weinberg of the University of Illinois at Chicago was referred to us by our funded researcher Dr. Doug Feinstein. Dr. Weinberg's son has a rare blood vessel tumor that might have an interesting cause. The disease, EHE, behaves less like a typical cancer because in that it doesn't respond to either chemotherapy or radiation and metastases don't seem to affect the outcome. It does behave more like a chronic infection such as TB. Dr. Weinberg did some research to determine that EHE might be caused by the bacteria Bartonella, which causes a similar looking disease in the HIV patients. This hypothesis is testable and suggests a possible quick, safe and affordable potential treatment: antibiotics.

This is a perfect example of digging through the literature to find a potential Rediscovery Research™ cure for a serious disease!
